To install an interior subfloor pressure relief system, (1) an approximate 12" wide by 10" deep trench will be excavated in the floor along the cove base and according to plan. (2)The trench will be lined with a filter paper and a 4" peforated subsoil drainpipe will be installed in the trench encased in "drain stone". (3) In the event of cinder block foundation walls only, weep holes will be drilled into every core and seam of the first course of block to aide in drainage. (4) The drain pipe is attached to a sump pump system which will discharge the water into a pvc pipe which will go through the foundation wall to the outside. (5) The weep holes will be covered by a drain core board which will extend above and below the floor. (6) The trench will then be concreted over flush with the floor.
In addition to basement waterproofing, all wet basements should have mold removal.

In order for you to understand what causes a water problem in your basement, it is important to understand how the foundation was originally built and waterproofed.
- First a hole was dug
- Then a footing was poured
- Next, the walls were built on the footing
- The floor is poured between the walls
- Drainage tile and gravel are placed at the bottom of the hole next to the footing
- The walls are sealed
- Finally, the hole is back-filled with the soil that was dug from the hole.
The soil in the clay backfilled area is now "loose" disturbed soil, compared to the "dense" undisturbed soil around it. This difference in soil creates the "BOWL EFFECT".
Clay Backfill will swell as it becomes saturated with water which creates PRESSURE directed towards the foundation wall.
